Hi fishes,
I am planning a switch so was going through some salary data for a software engineer. My ex-senior manager recommended me a website: Growceed.com which helped me a lot in getting clarification about a lot of things but I am in doubt whether the average salaries of software engineer mentioned on Growceed.com really that much in top MNC companies.

Do not allow your fears to win! You take one day at a time. Just set up virtual get to know you/me meetings. Ask about them, likes/frustrations/things that could be better and professional goals and share what the next 90 days might look like. I had a meeting once with a new Director and she sent a $5 Starbucks gift card to say “coffee meeting this cup is on me” I always loved that impression. So depending on how many you support it might be an option. Remember you learn the most outside of your comfort zone…good luck!
Starbucks offers electronic gift cards you can send via email.
One thing I learned and I loved is that you need to feel comfortable of not feeling comfortable. Normalize those feelings. They happen to anyone in a new environment and they fuel your growth. No one is that comfortable learning and managing new things. Whenever it takes up you mind just tell yourself - this is normal, anyone in my position would feel the same. Then let it pass and try focusing on what you’re doing one thing at a time!
Great Advice! Why is it so hard to normalize the normal?!?! Thank you.
This a great opportunity to reinvent yourself and start fresh! With your former tenure, I’m sure you had learning and growth mistakes - (very normal!) and received coaching all the way. Sometimes those in leadership tend to remember the younger/starting out version of you and have difficulty separating past and present. I have been in many talent discussions when examples are brought up in discussing promotions and I had to ask questions or counter the timing of those examples. Dozens of times leaders were genuinely surprised of how far back they remembered examples that were actually 2-4 years in the past! All to say, you have a great experiences and learned a lot and now it is time to demonstrate what the new company believes you bring to their team! It will take time to adjust - take it all in and be careful with over use of phrases: “at X we always did it this way… “ or when I worked at X…”. When said frequently, it starts to question your commitment and those around you start to question if X is so great, why are you at Y. Finally, set up 30 min get-to-know meetings with your team and ask questions to learn about their work and communication style . Good Luck!
This is so helpful - thanks! You are right, I have “grown up” at this company and while I have done well it is hard to outlive the expectations and thoughts those who remember the you of 20 years ago have. I appreciate the reminder and like the idea of reinventing me!
I’m in the same situation. Following in hopes you get great advice. :)
You'll do great! We are all very anxious when starting something new because of the uncertainty of it all. Remember you've done it and can do it. Spend time getting to know their processes and the team members. Ask them personal questions if they're willing to share and share some of yours as well. This will help you become more understanding and human to them and take notes on what their biggest concerns are, so you can address them if you can.
Thanks for the advice!
Following. Left a job after 6 years and feeling the same way. We’ll get through this!! I’ve kept telling myself to quit remembering how comfortable I was at my previous jobs since it just upsets me and makes me miss it.
One day, hopefully sooner rather than later, we will become comfortable again. Good luck!
Have a lot of informational interviews with people across the firm, both junior and senior to you. Every time you meet with someone ask them “who is someone you think I should meet?” Also, attend everything- every charity or volunteer opportunity or celebration. Just be incredibly visible. Also, give yourself a year. You will feel much better after a year.
Great advice! Thank you.
