I think there are too many DA coming out of school so we can't demand the money we deserve. These 10wk DA programs have helped ruin DA careers. They come out of school not knowing anything so dentists feel they're providing training and don't have to pay. We need a Union.
The 10wk programs shouldn't even count.
Yes, the majority of Dentist are not paying a fair market value for a dental system. For example, a barista at Starbucks makes about $25 per hour and that seems to be the going rate for a certified trained Dental assistant
In Ohio a new DA is paid about $20-21 on average, but dentists try to pay even lower like $18. It is a joke. I made more as a sales professional with a GED and experience. I see several jobs paying what DA make. Only reason I haven't went back to sales is because I HAVE TO HAVE the experience to go back for EFDA.
It's mostly a female role, they only got a recent pay increase after covid with a mass exodus due to no daycare affordability considering how little we make. They claim good help is hard to find but then pay you low, over work you, and offer no flexibility. I wish I was a Dental hygienist.

No it is not. Nursing assistants take a two week class and make the same or more. Sad
