It really depends on the area you live- but there definitely is a shortage so it leaves room for negotiation. But in my opinion, no one should start less than $35/hour base pay. Remember that everything is negotiable lol. It’s a descent career but there’s a lot a variability as to quality of life depending on the vibe of the office: some are lax and some are higher pressure with emphasis on sales.
In our area starting pay is atleast 50. Every office is desperate so you’ll see ads ranging from 50-65!
Last comment is true! There is a huge shortage.. it’s a tough job.. don’t do it for the money you will regret it over time. You will burn out! If you are all about pts oral health, and continue to be open to learning. Then you will have no problem being a hygienist. You have to have a heart for people.
I mean if you can deliver what patients came in for time wise and quality wise. Just because you graduated doesn’t mean u deserve average salary out there. I have seen plenty of hygienists not being able to scale calculus subg. Waste of time
