And i thought these things only happen in consulting firms. At Microsoft you would expect better.

So you’re working on AI?
haha how did you know?
Are you pushing out low quality work? Could be why.
I don't think so, got exceptional rewards & rating recently. I'm much better at the stuff he's taking away from me than the virtual smoke show that he is pushing. I have zero confidence any of his plans can materialize. AI is not a magic wand, he lacks understanding of how tasks, processes and systems run but wants to put AI on everything and make the business be run by agents 🤦🏼♀️

Can you push back/negotiate to stay on some of the work that is more meaningful?

MS, it’s worth a try. I did this with a mgr, explained that I needed X for my career growth, and knew y was important to him, so was happy to help out with y, but I had to have X. I was also prepared to leave because what the mgr wanted me to work on was zero value add to my career.
Pwc on trend with the dumb
What’s his stated reason for doing so
He got me additional help from another peer to share the workload because he wants me to focus on this other project. I never asked for this, and I never had any issue delivering in that space.
Ok, fair. I guess it’s a mix, because I can’t really solve this, I feel trapped 😫. I want to have real, tangible impact instead of focusing on empty AI promises with very low ROI. But at the same time, I also need my manager’s support and influence with upper levels to get promoted.
My manager wants to deliver on what his leadership is asking for (AI) and also get promoted, but he doesn’t understand what’s truly possible and realistic, so he puts this on my shoulders to figure out and deliver.
He thinks it is possible to transform how we work and delegate tasks to AI agents in a matter of months. We're not there yet and the amount of work required to do that is huge and well beyond our team's capabilities & resources. Of course, he doesn't want to hear that. In his team, either you're super excited about AI or you don't fit in. There's no room for criticism.
