Absolutely, I can relate to that. It’s quite eye opening when you see the numbers laid out like that. I find myself in a similar situation, and it’s concerning how quickly expenses can add up unexpected costs like car repairs can make things even tighter. That’s why I often think about negotiating my salary or looking for opportunities that offer better pay.
Not often, to be completely honest. I have before, but coming out with meager numbers is hard to see. There is only so much I can cut back on.

Man, that’s rough. Seeing it all laid out like that hits different when it’s just “money comes in, money goes out,” it’s easy to pretend it’s fine, but putting the actual numbers on paper (or spreadsheet) makes it impossible to ignore.
Less than 800 left after the big essentials? That’s not a lot of breathing room at all. No wonder it’s shifted how you feel about your pay. You’re basically working full-time just to cover the basics with almost nothing for emergencies, savings, or even small joys. That’s exhausting.
To answer your question: I try to do a proper check every 3-6 months, but honestly? I should do it more often. Life creeps up like subscriptions I forgot about, groceries costing 20% more than last year, random expenses and before I know it, the buffer I thought I had is gone.
I’ve started doing a quick “where did last month go?” review at the end of each month now, just 15-20 minutes scanning transactions. It’s not fun, but it keeps the shock from being as big as what you just went through.
