I found out I'm paid below nationalstandards. The company relies on me alot, if I am sick or have to use flma, they literally shut down because there's no one to replace me. I've gotten a 9% raise since discovering this. 9% because they don't have to ask for permission if it's below 10%, I just had a good yearly review, my supervisor told me I wouldn't be getting a yearly raise since the 9% was less than 3m ago. He said if I discussed my wage I'd be fired, later he walked that back. What do I do

Oh wow. What an incredibly toxic job. I bet you'll find a massive salary jump and big increase in respect at a new company. Let your current company find out what happens when you mistreat vital employees. What has made you stay at this current company for so long? You might not be able to find a new job immediately because the job market is terrible right now, but there is no doubt something much better out there for you.

I'm guessing it's a small business? No real HR dept.? Go above your boss (or even higher) to have a real conversation about the risk to the company and how you can help mitigate that risk.

Telling employees you can't discuss wages is in violation of the Fair Labor Act, iirc, implying retribution, and can also considered creating a hostile workplace.

Or leave, and let a company implode.

What's the best form of compensation to ask for and why?

My employers' CEO just announced that they just received $7 million from investors. He wants to use that money to offer incentives to employees that hussle and drive more revenue for the company. We're not sure what those incentives look like yet, but here are some post-announcement rumors from my co-workers:

Cash bonuses, raises, profit-sharing, company equity, 401k match, etc.

How to ask for a raise when you have more responsibility ?
Is it normal for people to ask for a raise when more responsibility/task fall under them? My company is going through separation and unfortunately my team is the one getting separated, I have to take on responsibility of another 3 people and continue to deliver the same after separation… how will you start this conversation with your manager ? Thanks in advance.

My colleague is going on maternity leave for 4 months and I was asked to cover some of her projects which are step up in responsibility than what I’m currently operating at. Some peers have suggested I ask for a raise to accommodate this but I’m not sure I agree as I’m only covering her while she’s out? What are others thoughts about this?

They mentioned if I were to be offered, expectation is I'd move to the US. I find this odd as the role is Remote but guess it's legal purposes. Good thing is, this comp also has a Canandian office BUT they said bringing me on through the Canadian office is not smth they do.

Is this reasonable?? How can i best negotiate? Thx!

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
