Assuming this is for an IB role and not a back office function?
Correct
Just went through the process is here’s my take: understand the coverage (industry) or product (M&A). Understand the customers: if sponsors, know LBOs. If public or large cap, know M&A process well - from accretion / dilution to transaction structure and pro forma modeling. But understand this. Technicals should be half your effort at best. Know the people, know the firm. Know what drives them, and have a damn good story. As a bonus down the line, know a few deals + a few stock pitches. Last priority before really crafting your story
Context I just did a Superday 9 interviews back to back. I over prepped on technical things they didn’t ask. If you can’t tell your story well and convince them you want to be there, then it was over before it started
