Candid advice- I think you’re asking the wrong question. It sounds more like you’re a paraprofessional than a professional, and the right question is how do you become a professional and advance past staff accountant. If you can answer that question, you’ll move past $28/hr
Your company may still see you as a receptionist. You might need to consider changing companies to be recognized as an accountant. However, please be aware that some companies, but not all, may hold it against you for not having a degree. Good luck to you.
Rising Star
I would advise that you look for some form of online certification course at a minimum. If you feel accounting is your path forward it would be beneficial to work towards an associate degree at a community college so you have more flexibility in looking for a better role elsewhere. Your current employer is likely going to see you through a skewed lens since you started there in a nonprofessional role.
