Income from crime is also taxed. You steal a car and sell it, gotta pay tax on that.
Easy if you just tax billionaires
the reason this is BS is because the IRS is curve fitting to get me re revenue.
"Yeah, crypto is property, not currency, but we still gonna not allow like kind exchanges lol"

I have no idea what are you talking about. Crypto is either currency or it’s a capita asset. Those are the two choices.
Either of those results in taxation when disposed. So yes, when you buy the car, you are taxed. That is true no matter what the asset you trade for the car is unless it is USD currency.
Edit: to be clear in your example are you complaining that if you bought bitcoin for $10 in 2010 and user said bitcoin to buy a $10k car now, that the $9990 in gain is taxable? Because that’s nuts if that’s the complaint. That’s true of every other possible item other than US currency that you have under your bed.
It’s considered “property” for federal income tax purposes. 🥸
Can someone explain why this is a joke? Don’t see why there’s a reason capital gains shouldn’t apply

Thailand taxes capital gains with some exclusions (publicly traded investments) as well as having a territorial system.
Quick google search seems to indicate there’s withholding on crypto.
