I have to cancel my trip because of new COVID restrictions, but the airline refuses to refund $500 of each of our (me+partner’s) tickets, so a total of $1000.

I paid with my AMEX gold. Can I use their travel insurance to recuperate these cancellation fees?

You should message the Amex concierge team, they should be able to tell you and they're usually pretty quick to respond. You can even find a number to call them on the back of the card.

similar thing for me — i got covid and had to cancel. disputed my charge on my gold card and it worked!

Depends on the airline and what type of ticket you bought. Some are refundable to the original form of payment, some are only eligible for a flight credit or voucher, some are nonrefundable.

I’d start with disputing the charge if you’re within the window to do so. That’s a big benefit of Amex - they make the merchant justify why their charges are bona fide.

I have been searching for a travel card for months. I am a young guy who is looking to take advantage of credit and earn points at the same time. Cap One just released an interesting new premium travel card with a lot of seemingly good perks (Venture X). I also looked at the CSP and the Southwest Priority card. My girlfriends family has Southwest and swear by it, with companion pass being the differentiator. I am in the DMV area and have mostly flown Jet Blue or Southwest. Any thoughts on this?
