If you really want a blend, I wouldn't advise a medium sized firm - they will want you to specialize. If your ultimate goal is a small form practice, I'd suggest going that route and find a smaller firm now.
This is spot on. Go to a small practice, get hands on experience, learn the tools and software, find your niche and jump out there

Folks are right. If that is your goal, you should get the small firm experience now. The environment and type of work is very different. Top 20s will be more like a big firm with lesser technology. You might want to find something like a 300 person firm, which is large enough to provide stability and decent resources, but still operate more like a smaller firm. I’ve been at local, B4, and MM…in that order.
