Totally get that. You joined with good intentions, and it’s okay to realize it’s not the right fit. Maybe a kind note to the lead, like, “I’ve really appreciated learning from the group, but I’m stepping back to give space to voices who are more directly connected to the mission.” If you are honest and humble, they will be okay.

This is the social justice equivalent of corporate buzzspeak.
Just talk like a person, from the heart. This sounds like a press release.
I'm sure you're not the first to ever go through that thought process, but I know in our minds it feels like such a huge deal to leave something you committed to. I'm sure everything will be just fine, just be respectful, honest, and straight forward about your exit.

I think you just tell them you are feeling overwhelmed with responsibilities in your life and you need to pare down how many things you're involved in. Nobody could blame you for that I don't think.
