My male boss recommended the book “The Confidence Code” which is a self help book for women. It was recommended to all the females that work under him. I feel like that's a little inappropriate?

I will say, this is the best professional leadership book I have ever read. I recommend this yo everyone I coach. It’s practical and applies to the everyday women, not like lean in 😤, which I felt was for the privileged (of which I was not).

The confidence code is also a great book for minority coaching (both male and female ) as well.

Look at his coachingwith positive intention. He was trying to be helpful. It’s a great book though.

I understand that I might be in the minority here, but as a woman having made my career working in and around dominant, assertive male executives, I would recognize that he was providing me with a blueprint of how to succeed while under his leadership.

I would look at his book recommendation as an opportunity to gain insight into this Manager's perspective on the women in his department, his expectations of them & on their ability to succeed.

IMO, he is empowering the women in his department to be confident, be resilient, to not be afraid of taking calculated risks while maintaining accountability for their decisions.

like

Thats hella microaggressive. I think imma buy it though, PwC 1 review has me sold (I’m legit not joking, this is the perfect time for self coaching)

like

He may just be proud that he read it! But it’s a great book for sure. I recommend it to all women working in male-dominated teams to understand their world better

There is not one person out there ... male, female who doesn’t feel insecure at times. This book addresses why as women we constantly sabotage our thoughts . It does it in a good way... your not broken , bad or anything that needs to fixed. It gives you a chance to see that everyone feels the same way, so gives you tips how move through those emotions acknowledge them and move on.

So powerful.

Partner’s tone immediately shifts and as we’re ending the call he says, “Okay, enjoy the time with your family at the civil ceremony.” Like… girl you live in California, you cannot be this backward.
