I joined NWB in 2025 mid year, and since then my payslips didn't contain TDS deduction in it. Now while filing ITR, its showing me to pay a certain amount as part of Interest for default in payment of advance tax(234B and 234C).

Can someone help me to understand why should i pay penalty as its not my fault?

How u can be ignorant about tds not been deducting in payslips, it is but obvious monthly deduction. U have to declare your prev employer salary in HGS portal in order to correctly calculate your tax liability. But thats now a by-gone thing. Unfortuanately, now u have to pay all the tax liability with interest for late payment as correctly mentioned on the itr portal .

U have enjoyed a pocketfull of monthly salary for some months, now is the time to return it back with interest 😭😭😭🤣

funny

I am saying this because my friend was in same situation last year and later he got official demand letters vial india post at his address and income tax vasooli depts calls 🤣 I forgot the dept name

funny

Better to pay tax and interest and save urself from this unnecessary hustle and stress later

Its very unfortunate to face this situation since this was my first switch which made my total package taxable by govt. Thank you all for your input, this has been a learning experience for me and would make me aware next time.

Unfortunately my savings will now fund the pockets of corrupt evil babus in GBA.

And its totally ur fault to be clear. If u leave a company, that company payroll dept wont know if u r joining sonewhere else or not. So they dont cut tds considering those 6 months as annual ctc.
Similary, when u join new company in mid year, the payroll dept wont know if you was prevoiusly working and what was ur salary. So they consider ur next 6 month sakary as full year ctc.

However, they always mail/notify you to declare prev employer salary which will help calculating the tds for financial year. Which you clearly missed
