Sorry to hear that, it sounds like pretty rude behavior. Sometimes the phone screeners just get burned out over the course of the day or something, and they can't even pretend to be enthusiastic. It's unfortunate because the energy they project can mess up the process, and for a candidate there's a lot riding on it. Let's hope you hear back, there's a good chance you did fine and will move ahead.

That would bother me too. Even if they were slammed, candidates can absolutely feel when someone is distracted. It may not reflect the whole company, but first impressions like that do matter.
