Hello!
It’s a competitive market and so we understand candidates probably are interviewing with multiple companies. We ask this to understand where you are in the process. Do we need to move quickly or do we have time… are you going to drop out of our process if you receive an offer somewhere else or are you super interested in us? We really ask this to open up a transparent conversation. There is no right or wrong answer, we ask it to understand your situation so we can best accommodate.
To know so if they pass u to the hiring manager for interview, offer, etc!
They know u r a bit time sensitive so if they really want u they gotta work faster in their processes
Hi! Happy to share :) I ask if candidates are passively searching or actively searching because it gives me an idea of how fast to move/helps me understand what the market is looking like, and reduce risk for our company. If a candidate says yes I’m interviewing, I’ll ask where in the process they are or are they expecting an offer, because I can then let the hiring managers know that they need to prioritize this and move fast if they like the person. It would also look bad if I didn’t ask, and a hiring manager was excited and putting together an offer, only for the candidate to message me and say “hey I got an offer from a company I was in finals with, thanks anyway!” Which I’d have to relay to the HM.
We want to make sure you will get to the finish line with us, so you can then decide on the best possible offer. :)
I’d say the right answer is: be as transparent as you can if you want to help us help you!
Last night I interviewed someone who shared he’s also interviewing at Amazon today. I didn’t go to bed until I put his application in. Lol.
To be sensitive to your timelines and request to expedite the process with the hiring team. Ideally we want to remain in the running, and a chance to present a competitive offer.
I only ask this for this reason: if that is the case, I then push my Account Executives and Hiring Managers to speed up the interview process. A great candidate won’t be on the market too long.
