It’s reasonable to ask for a higher base, especially if the benefits don’t match your current role. Approach the conversation by expressing your excitement about the offer while clearly outlining your concerns about the overall package.
Depends on what was discussed up to this point. If you specifically asked for 118k, and that’s what they offered, very hard to walk back on that in my opinion. Good reminder to understand the benefits before giving a number.
It’s absolutely reasonable to ask for a higher base. Salaries are almost always negotiable, and at the end of the day, the worst they can say is no. I’d recommend coming back and saying that, after giving it some thought, you’d need XYZ in order to accept the offer.
Congrats on the offer! It’s definitely reasonable to negotiate, especially if the benefits don’t align with your expectations. When approaching the conversation, I’d recommend being transparent about your current compensation and how the total package compares. Emphasizing your value and what you bring to the table can help strengthen your case. Have you thought about specific points you want to highlight during the discussion?
