This is the right thing to do if you feel the new role does not set you (or the company) up for success. Your “potential” in the eyes of your company will probably take a hit. If times are good that might not necessarily be a bad thing. That being said, when times are bad and a hammer gets dropped the low potential employees usually get cut loose first. It’s is not always based on performance alone. It sucks that employees are viewed this way, but unfortunately it is reality.
This is exactly right. Whats worse is that you would have probably done a better job than the person who will get that job.
