IMHO - I think a lot of leaders are so disconnected from lower levels that they come off as disengeuinous and aloof, so this can cause us not to look up to them for leadership because they lack that empathy. Happens across a lot of firms especially consulting
Relatable!!!
I jumped to a startup and actually have leaders I look up to now soo…I say jump!
Do you have much exposure and access to them? Do you understand their vision and strategy? If yes to both and you’re still uninspired then at least start to look around
I have exposure and access to them, yes. To be fair, I haven’t taken time to get to know ALL of them because they are not relatable.
I used to work for a firm that lacks leadership in taking new initiatives - never want to lead the market, never want to do anything different and always following the same approach. Basically they play it safe in everything. People were so afraid to have an honest, but productive conversation. Their values didn’t resonate with me, so that with uncompetitive pay did it for me.
If the behaviors that matter to you are not exhibited by the majority of the leaders, it’s just hard to buy in.
Chief
I couldn’t relate to the leaders at my firm when I first joined. That said, colleagues that I do admire were recently promoted which inspires me.
That’s usually a telling sign. Jump.
