The matching metals and leathers rules are pretty outdated. You should care about how you dress for the sake of self expression not obedience to the ghost of Beau Brummell. I would focus on making sure the shoes/belt/watch/accessories are all on the same level of formality (so i would say mixing brown and black leathers is a no go). I bought a pair of custom burgundy shoes with matching belt and it’s nice to match but it wasn’t worth it. I still happily wear my rose gold tone watch on a brown strap with the combo and it looks fine. I just bought a rose gold wedding band and I’m definitely not going to drop another grand just so i don’t clash with my steel dive watch. Also for what it’s worth someone who actually notices that your horse bit loafer doesn’t match your belt buckle sounds EXHAUSTING.
I didn’t know that was a thing. I think mixing metals is completely fine if done well.
Yes, but it's only done well if it looks intentional. And it only looks intentional if there's another piece of hardware pulling the mismatched pieces together (i.e. a two-toned watch, stacked bracelets in mixed metals, etc)
Same principle applies when wearing black with navy. You need either two black pieces and two navy pieces, or you need one piece containing both black and navy. Otherwise it just looks like a mistake.
Do you have more metals that match the belt? (I.e. watch/ wedding band?) If so you're fine. If not, get a new belt.
Watch and ring match the bit, not the belt 🫠. Thank you will get a new one today!
So you can get away with the mixed metals if the browns on the shoe and belt match exactly, and if you keep the metals to just silver and gold on the rest of your outfit and accessories e.g., don’t introduce a matte black metal
