Anyone else chase certain platform or functional skills based solely on the potential to make better money than what you were originally doing only to find that you don’t enjoy the area much at all
Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) I’ve been asking partners if I can assist in any projects so I can fill my plate, but I’ve only gotten small (4-6 hour) tasks handed my way.
How does BCG’s operations practices score as compared to McKinsey and Bain? Want to switch to MBB for operations. Need some perspective. Thank you
Congrats to all the folks who got promoted this year! Happy for everyone but still feeling a little blue.. was really hoping to make it to the next level this year. Looking for some advice.. do I slog it out for one more year in current big 4 or do I try to jump to another firm at the next level?
Is 30 too old to toss up 6 years of working in accounting and go into sales or an operational role? I like how public accounting has a defined career path but I feel like I’d be better at something I could be passionate about. Or sales interests me because I’m all about relationships and would be more motivated if I could see my earnings being tied to my output. I just don’t know what that is and can’t really afford to do an MBA. Any advice?
First year looking to take the CISA after busy season. Any advice from those who have done so?
Hey fishes! Need some guidance here, currently working at a top 10 firm, I like the IT audit work, I enjoy my team, but I’m feeling like this will be my last busy season here as I want to try some place different + get better pay. My main question is… should I go for a big 4 for 1-2 years to gain that experience in my resume and then jump to industry or should I jump to industry directly? TIA
I was doing real consulting work for a Wealth Management tech firm and took a job at another tech firm for twice the money. They hired me to the Org because they wanted to stand up a new team that actually worked with customers and consulted for new opportunities. The current Org's 'consulting' title is really glorified onboarding. The point in hiring me was to help with enablement, and eventually manage a team. Con't
I’m leading a team but also getting pulled into another project by the delivery lead. The team members I’m leading seem to be irritated with me or something for not being as present as I should. Any tips for fostering these relationships better?? To add some more context to this, I am a senior analyst leading a team of another senior analyst and an analyst and one off shore consultant (yes it’s a stretch role for sure). I think that aspect might be playing a role as well. TIA
We often talk about European OOO msgs in this group, turns out there are challenges. "As costs ballooned, officials were "stunned" by the French taking a month vacation each summer." www.yahoo.com/news/budget-overruns-culture-clashes-over-121033257.html
Has anyone successfully taken unpaid leave after short term disability? I think my doctor’s willingness to continue filling out my paperwork for STD is reaching an end but I’m having panic attacks even thinking about returning to work so I’d like to take more time off. I’m willing to take unpaid leave but not sure if broaching this with HR will just cause my company to fire me
What does your work schedule look like (roughly) if you are aiming for 1900 billable hours?

I understand we all come from different. Our communities are different and there are different needs. Given that, should there be minimum working conditions and minimum salary guidelines for the teaching profession? We’ve got standards we have to follow for the teaching profession. But we’ve got a hodgepodge of working conditions and salaries. What could possibly be a basic ask for this work?
What do you guys do when you’re feeling extremely burnt out from work? Been working crazy hours and projects have been bumpy. Could really use a break but got no more vacation days left...
Would you rather... have to check your bag for every flight or never have access to pre-check/clear again?
Trying to explain billable hrs to hubs. I billed 160 this month, which he said “is only 40 hr weeks” (true) - but how many hrs do you figure you “work” or are in the office to bill 150?
