Got a dog? Dog parks are fun to meet people. Otherwise gym for myself
Additionally there’s a fishbowl group that has started meeting in person — I’d think there will be another event this quarter posted soon
Yes, dog parks is about all I’ve done ha
I’m in the same boat. To keep myself busy I’ve started doing volunteer work, took a cooking class, got a membership to Cheekwood, and have been walking the dog more even though I have a fenced backyard. To meet people I’ve joined a couple groups on Meetup and started a neighborhood Bunco group.
Try bumble bff
Yessss! Takes a while, but I’ve met all my friends in that way either directly or indirectly
Dating apps are a useful tool for me.
Dating apps have been terrible for me. I match with a good amount but most of the women don’t even respond to a single message. I’m convinced most people are not on them to actually meet people.
A lot of people move here thinking it’s going to be happy fun times like Broadway but soon they realize the people here for a while aren’t looking to make new friends and all of the other transplants even have their own groups or are like you
I don't necessarily think that is true for everyone. I've lived here my whole life and friends have come and gone. About half my friends are from here and the other half moved here. Several of them are friendships that are only a few years old. I would keep an open mind and not put everyone in a box.
Have you tried a gym? I go to Fit Factory and everyone is pretty friendly. Just say hey to people and good things will happen
What part of town do you live in? I think the neighborhoods vary in terms of openness.
Most friends have at least one thing in common. I would evaluate your hobbies and likes (and new things you might want to try), then find and join groups that do those activities. Or depending on the hobbies, go do them by yourself and you can meet friends there.
Well DM me - I moved here in 2019, 6mos before pandemic hit, and am still kinda feeling where you’re at! Remote work, check. Also, I have kids so I can’t get out as much as I’d like to.
But I actually do need a retirement consultant! And I definitely recommend trying sporty stuff - gym, yoga, run clubs, boxing. I run half marathons and the first thing I did when I moved here was link up with the local run clubs. If you can run a couple miles with a local brewpub group, that’s a guaranteed social.
Hit me up! Still trying to make friends as well!
