Guys , whoever is interviewing and planning to join , do ask project availablity on priority basis before you take decision. On Java front looks like there is some project issue due to recent slowdown in market. My offer was not revised even after agreement with recruiter because of this.

Automatic voter registration! We helped craft the legal arguments to convince state agency to expand voter registration automatically with existing authority.
Also love all the asylum work I do!
Following (because my firm doesn’t support pro bono and love to see what I’m missing out on)!
Oh good god. As a first-year associate in NYC, I told the traffic manager that I enjoyed landlord-tenant work. He staffed me on this amorphous, constantly evolving matter involving a client who was way behind in condo dues and claimed she had good reason but truly could not form a linear thought. The attorney for the condo association was a good guy and genuinely felt for our client but had to push for repayment and eviction at his client’s urging. Our client clearly needed help, and she didn’t seem to be acting maliciously, but her claims were such a cluttered mess that, at the trial that she insisted go forward, our lead associate was asked by the judge “what is your client’s good-faith defense to the allegation that she owes tens of thousands of dollars to plaintiffs?” and we didn’t have a straight answer. The judge told us we had until after lunch to strike a deal with plaintiffs.
This matter had gone on for months, and we had been told all kinds of unbelievable things by our client. Chief among them was that her sister was rich and would make the payments if necessary, but our client refused to get in touch with her despite all our advice that she would get excoriated at trial if she didn’t settle. This was just one of many not-very-plausible things we had been told over the course of countless infuriating meetings trying to form some sort of story for a defense.
So we break for lunch and are due back in court at 1:15. Our client strolls up at 1:10, says “ok, my sister will pay it,” and actually got her wealthy sister to pay 100% of the claims against her. Just like that.
(Yes, we did try to refer our client to resources for her mental health, both directly and through her sister. I am not sure what happened after our representation ended, but I really hope she got the help she needed.)
Asylum case for a woman escaping from horrendous abuse on account of a disability. Her resiliency and love for her children made a lasting impact on me.
The client admitted that he DID rape and strangle to death the 14 year old girl. I’m not a criminal defense attorney. Client and a senior partner were in the navy together 20ish years prior. Client didn’t appear crazy, and was very ashamed and apologetic. I had been tasked with helping him deal with getting out of a lease... because the girlfriend broke up with him after the whole rape and murder thing. I went to one meeting with him before I summoned the courage to tell the partner that I was not going to work with the guy. The partner seemed annoyed, but I assumed it was because his friend did something so terrible and then asked him for help, and he probably wanted me to take care of it quietly.
Agency and appellate briefing for an asylum case. Memorable because I was the only associate on it working for an absolutely miserable partner who had no interest in doing anything, or learning any of the relevant law/facts, except for parachuting in 2 weeks before a filing and requiring multiple all nighters a week each time as I had to baby step them through every legal contention and every factual citation contained in the documents.
