I realised something at work had changed when I started rehearsing every sentence before speaking in meetings. I personally don’t think work should feel like walking on eggshells or feeling nervous. Have you ever caught yourself changing how you speak just to avoid reactions? And how did you deal with it?

I worked with a bizarrely ill-tempered person that made me that way. I'd overthink just about anything I said, as I had to be careful not to set her off. Anything I said, no matter how benign, would be wrong and might trigger a tantrum. I finally realized it didn't matter how much I tried to edit what I was about to say, the problem wasn't what I was saying. It was that the manager in question simply had a screw loose.

I’m so sorry you had to experience that! It’s madness that people like this are managing other people

I had a manager who demanded that I never use the word told, even though she used it all the time. I had to say “explained to them” instead. Example: I wasn’t allowed to say “I told my team I’m taking next week off.”

I couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

Glad you got away from that! Sounds crazy

Hello Fishes,
I am much stressed.. it’s only been 5 months to join Capgemini. I joined in as cyber security consultant with good package.
However, the work I do the tricks, logics and solutions I share with team to apply in the project… all are of no use when discussed with the architect guy. The whole team rely upon the wordings/solutions suggested by him only. It feels like my skill/knowledge and experience is of no use.
I feel like what am I doing here….? Any suggestions please.

I'll switch to a startup as the only data engineer and will closely work with all the Head ofs + the CTO.

Any advice/books/... on stakeholder management at that level? Especially when things fail/discussing budgets/new hires etc.
