Why is that something you want to do?
If it’s just the money, don’t. Explore other options that involve people but not managing them.
Things to keep in mind:
- people leadership requires a HIGH EQi.
Brush up on your leadership and emotional intelligence skills. Get a therapist. If your manager doesn’t also coach and support you - hire a coach for coaching and support. You will need it.
- managing entry level employees is like running an adult kindergarten center. Prepare yourself for people for shenanigans.
- if you can leverage your education to fast track your ascension to managing leaders instead - give it a shot but this make clear with your leader when creating your professional development plan.
- Set and communicate your boundaries clearly from the get go. iDK if you are currently salaried or not but when you are salaried a lot more will be thrown on your plate with the understanding that you will get it done, even if it means you work 60 hours a week for the same pay.
- don’t isolate yourself. Network and form relationships with your peers and higher ups. Visibility and execution are what get you noticed.
