Why is it so hard to move out of federal consulting and into the private sector?

Cause the private sector side looks down on federal experience and people don’t want to take a step back in terms of level or firm (or even comp in rare cases).

And yet now our sector is flooded with the cvs of desperate private beach goers

As D1 said, to do it I took a demotion and a pay decrease. Got multiple raises during th year at firm 1, a year later I jumped firms again and got 80% increase in comp year over year

Haven’t had issues interviewing at FAANG. All about framing your experience.

I match/exceed the quals for 2 Google positions and have referrals. Think I framed my experience appropriately since I’ve actually done the job they describe in the JD. Still got immediate rejections. Have any advice?

A lot is people limiting themselves based on what everyone else says. Figure out how to mold that resume and experience into the commercial job.

I like the public sector and honestly consider it a risk to go into private sector consulting (as I live in DC). I had 3 offers to change jobs recently and removed the private sector consulting option 1st...

I’m worried that I’ll be stuck in the public sector. I’ve gone back and forth throughout my career but I’m worried that I’m just not as creative or achieving as much in the public sector as I could be in the private sector. I guess that’s the trade-off?

Honestly ... Network within your firm. Young be surprised what can come from that. Also a good idea to keep your Rolodex diversified in this business

I moved from my “homegrown” consulting firm to another, smaller firm- thinking they had better technology capabilities and I would get to do better work. The worklife balance is better as is the tech but for many other reasons its been a complete disaster and I hate it. I want to move into my industries tech field, and I am getting a few bites but it has been less than a year at my new job and i feel so nervous about making another “bad” move and feeling suck.

Deadlines can induce anxiety attacks for me. I worked through the weekend and just woke up to a (nice!) email from the client asking about progress. We're not going to hit deadline. This caused an all-out anxiety attack at 6:30 am and now I have to somehow get myself together and work.

How can I have a healthy relationship with deadlines? That "good and done is better than perfect" saying is nice, but expectations are very high. I just want to stop feeling this way. Therapy helps, kind of.
