I saw that schools in Sweden are reversing their digital learning tools and bringing back textbooks, pens, and paper. Do you wish your district would make this switch or do you love your digital teaching tools?

This is a mixed bag. I see advantages for certain areas in use of technology but at the same time certain topics and subjects would be better served by the use of pen and paper for independent thought.

I agree. In my class I have the students do both, digital and good ole paper and pen. The student who is successful has all the tools in tbe tookit. Not just one

Bring back the textbooks. Have a shared set of Chromebooks for the grade level to use when and if your instructions as a teacher calls for it. The teacher should be the driver of when and how technology is used. Technology shouldn’t be the norm, it should be the exception. It should be used as the tool that it is. We know too much about the repercussions of technology on the developing brain to continue to proceed ‘as is’.

Definitely pens and paper. I can see digital for reference material as things are always changing and it is good for mew info.

Yeah, my students get less than 90 minutes a week with screen time.

I love my digital tools. I wouldn't want to go back.

I still believe in having kids take notes by hand, but otherwise I'm almost completely on Google Classroom.

I think we need a balance of both. Obviously students are going to need to know how to work with digital tools in their careers. On the other hand we have seen the negative effects of the overuse of digital technology. Any psychiatrist will tell you that bringing back books, pencils and paper is what schools need to do. As one person put it, "expecting students to do their homework online is like putting a bowl of icecream in front of them and saying, eat your broccoli".
Yes, I think books need to make a comeback. As well as mastery. I believe that students should be required to have at least one class or certain projects within classes that aren't complete until they are 100%. Few students strive for this level of perfection. We all know that many students are averaging around 70% and aren't interested in excelling beyond this. Consider this, is 70% acceptable in the professional world? What if you only did 70% of your work? The expectation to complete 100% shouldn't a shock to any student when they enter the professional world.

Silicon Valley started this several years ago.

I teach math. We use pretty advanced calculators, but we burn through markers and pencils.

I already use textbooks paper and pens. Kiddos never take out Chromebooks. Waste of time
