Yeah, I left the project. Some people can’t stand to see people of color in leadership positions and will do anything to minimize, diminish, or degrade you. Ranging from over-emphasizing any minor thing you do that’s not aligned with how they’d do something, to setting you up for failure, to not reviewing/supporting the work you do, to projecting stereotypes onto you, to not giving you time you deserve. This type of person will always describe you behind closed doors as unprofessional, not experienced enough, angry/aggressive and it can ruin your career by sticking with them vs. seeking other projects. It can be very subtle too… I had one YT woman always use the word “cheat” with me when she found out I was working more closely with a male superior on the same team. She would insinuate there was something romantic happening and there absolutely was not. You’re not meant to work with everyone and it’s not worth it to endure such prejudice.
Listen to your instincts. Think on them before they think on you.
Are you new to the team? Are their team members who applied for your role and was denied? This happened to me and, ultimately, it was a no-win solution for me.
Since you’re doing great, I wouldn’t leave the role. But make sure you CYA ERYTHANG! Double check and recheck. You’re going to have to learn how to navigate because this won’t be the last time. Maybe, find a trusted mentor that you can talk to or rally support from those above you.
Congrats on having a great role. Don’t let the haters steal your thunder.
I share everything that M1 is saying, and I also ended up leaving the project, but not without making a little bit of a stink. Im at least thankful that my company acknowledges my professionalism and my ability to do my job, but it got really bad. If you come correct and you handle your business, most people will respect you regardless of if there’s some that don’t.
That’s also really important that Wells Fargo said make sure that you paper trail everything even if you’re all keeping track of your own things start documenting it on this day this happened with this person because it will matter if it needs to matter
How long have you been in the new role? Usually 90 days in you start seeing others work style or character. Also, see if it’s the same person or a one off lack of communication. Also, what’s your title? Some of these answers don’t match the scenario. Is there a part one that’s missing?
