Hi all, I’m a junior in a busy biglaw practice, and I’m currently scheduling a final interview at my dream in-house job, located in a different city. The interview will happen over the next week or two and will take an entire workday, plus travel.

How do I ask for a random day off on such short notice without raising suspicions? I don’t want to be duplicitous and pretend I’m sick or in the middle of a family emergency, but I also don’t feel I can be fully honest about the situation.

Is it any surprise we’re seeing mass layoff in tech? Years of rich friends hiring rich friends with no work ethic has lead us here. I know way too many tech people who work maybe an hour a day followed by errands and traveling. A lot of getting in these places is who you know, apparently that doesn’t work out like it used to. The amount of people who worked for Meta, Apple, Amazon, etc for a few months / maybe a year is astounding. it’s around that time frame a boss can tell if you’re worth it
