take the promotion, they will give you the work load regardless!!!

Generally speaking every promotion comes with its upside and downside. Most promotions to manager I believe are a trap; however it’s all about how and if you’re able to manage it or not. Either way you’ll get promoted into a “mess” that’s the drive talking that got you promoted in the first place. Might as well get promoted, take the early pay increase and in 6 months if you’re unhappy move on or try to take another perspective on the situation.
I've been in PA for 9 years and glad for the promotion opportunities. I've worked through some stressful clients and times. I think it was valuable experience.
I've taken over troublesome clients/project and some have become much better and highly profitable. However, last week I told my boss I didn't want to work another year on one client. My boss was good with it. I was prepared to push back a lot of needed, but it wasn't necessarily.
I guess my point is that taking on challenges is a good thing because it allows your pay and career to grow. So if you want career growth you have to take steps like this. If you're happy to say where you are don't worry about it.
If your strickly looking at the ROI. Do the math and answer that question for yourself. Look at what the hours will be and if that is how you want to live life for a little while.
Yes - you are basically paid to solve things and manage things better. Give it 6 months and see if this is what you expect. You can always find something else if you don’t think it will work out. Congrats!
Agree take the promotion but start looking for a new position in case this is not what you expect. I have seen were an executive threw his weight around making a highly quaified director that had come out to retirement to fill a void that the exec had been hiring misfits for 2-3 years. The X-Retiree came in turned the division around in 2 years and the Exec. had some personal feeling involed and the the X-Retiree to travel around the state 3 day of everyweek. X-Retiree gave it a 2 weeks or so and walked. One of the staff members the X-Retiree hired 3 months before this happened was "promotived". The newbie promoted only quailification was that she was available to drive an hour to and from 2 the 6 offices, she had never managed people and her management style is "put out the fire". The department has stuggled and the staff suffers.
