It’s always good to be honest. The important thing is how you frame it in the interview.
How about something like this, you can tweak it dependent on the situation:
“I left my last role because I realized how important a supportive, communicative team culture is to me. I was in a situation where I didn’t feel heard or respected, and rather than stay in a misaligned environment, I made the decision to step away and look for a workplace that values collaboration, accountability, and professional growth. I’m excited to bring my skills to a team that shares those values.”
It’s not an easy decision to walk out, but there are times where it’s necessary, so good on you for recognizing that!
This was an excellent response
I always try to be honest but like others said, you have to frame it right. I really like the way that Community Coordinator 1 put it. You can also ask Chat GPT and then tweak the answer to make it your own.
When you say "walked out", do you mean that literally as if you walked off the job before your shift ended? Did you give atleast a week or two notice? Just curious.
Agree and don’t give that managers name as a reference. Can easily give another manager. These days they ask you for names.
Chief
I would emphasize your character and values during the interviews. I would avoid talking bad about previous employers. Just say we had disagreements in values and it wasn’t a good fit
