I was recently terminated due to performance issues (missed some deadlines and struggled with the workload) and I'm stressed about upcoming interviews. What's the best way to explain why I left without immediately getting rejected?

I was in same boat as you op a month ago and received two offers. I did not lie directly but used my worlds carefully.
I think there were two companies where I would have received offers from but team members there knew people at my firm and they probably got the information through friends. Things were going fine until later part of interview and things went sideways quickly.
I have received two offers already and in process to get 1 more. Keep trying and you will land a job soon.

you don’t have to disclose that you were let go. you can say you’re looking for a role with more growth opps/somewhere more aligned with your goals or make something up

just lie. no need to shoot yourself in the foot.

^ Has nothing to do with HR and all the recruiters you talk to when interviewing. Prior employment verification just checks for start and term dates.

I agree with everyone else, come up with something else. “I’m looking to diversify my client portfolio”, “I’m interested in specializing in XYZ, which I know this firm has a niche in”, something like that.

It’s possible to be a star performer at one firm and an underperformer at another, this is a fresh start.

I would focus on the value that you bring to the new team and the growth / more challenging opportunities. Employers don’t usually ask if or how you got terminated.

I did encounter couple of job applications that asked that question directly “have you ever been let go from a position?” I was shocked that they asked these questions on the job applications.

Previous firm has was right-sizing the team, you were one the newest team members, etc. You can be honest without giving all the details.

I’d frame it as a situation where the role ended up being a poor fit for your skills and pace, but you’ve learned how to manage your workload more effectively. Employers respect candidates who can reflect and show growth.

Anyone from CBS ET here? The management is so toxic and pathetic. I want to resign without even having a backup offer. Too scared to take such a step owing to financial responsibilities.

Hey beautiful people,
I’m 27Y and work in tech. Unfortunately my carpal tunnel is getting worst slowly. I’m worry that I still have like 45 years more to be retired and can’t stop working because I have a f* mortgage to pay 😭 I have a super ergonomic workstation, but I know my hand needs a long rest, and I can’t do it… Does anyone relate? What do you recommend?
