Hey beautiful people,
I’m 27Y and work in tech. Unfortunately my carpal tunnel is getting worst slowly. I’m worry that I still have like 45 years more to be retired and can’t stop working because I have a f* mortgage to pay 😭 I have a super ergonomic workstation, but I know my hand needs a long rest, and I can’t do it… Does anyone relate? What do you recommend?

If it is really bad, go see a doctor. I had carpel tunnel release surgery and was back at work in a couple of days. They will likely recommend some physical therapy or other affordances before surgery. The most important thing is to have the condition documented by a doctor in case you need to take off time or get some additional office equipment.

I had that problem years ago. I wore a wrist brace all day and also slept in it. It helped a lot. Now I use a track ball mouse on the thumb and I no longer have pain.

Cut out dairy - that causes inflammation. Hopefully the relief will give you a few more years before you also need to cut out meat.

I’m 2 years vegan and my joint pain went away within a month. It comes back every time for a couple days when I enjoy pizza

Agree with the comment above. Go see a doctor. There is a simple surgery to fix the issue.

Ergonomics are so vital. If you’re in a pain state, setting a timer every hour to do a back of hand stretch and bring more blood flow in is helpful. Early in my career, I had carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms because I was so clenching the mouse, but I moved to a stylus pen, and that helped a lot. And the *essential* massage therapist will work up the arm, even into the shoulder to help with blood flow. Start with stretching regularly, and massage.

Additional Posts in Job Hunting in Tech

I've been searching for a new job because I know I am underpaid. I have 12+ years of experience in the event industry and seven years in the Event Tech world. I interviewed with Netflix, Amazon, and Microsoft. I went through all the stages, but I was not selected. Any advice? I think I did great in all my interviews; my resume is solid, and I have four university degrees including a Master’s. I speak English and Spanish. Any advice of what my problem might be?

I have been a software developer (professionally) for about 7 years now, but I’ve decided to move out from that job and do something else (still in tech).
I don’t know yet what to do exactly, but I know I just don’t want to be only writing code every day.
Tbh, I am scared. But I have set myself one year to learn something new.
I also want to go for a job that pays more (55k€ currently). I live in Paris, France, and software developers are not well paid.
Any suggestion for a career transition?
