I went into my annual review expecting a raise and walked out feeling like I’m the worst employee in the history of the company. My boss didn't mention a single one of my successful campaigns, but she did spend 20 minutes dissecting a single typo I made in a draft back in April. Does anyone else have a manager who uses performance reviews as a psychological weapon rather than a tool for growth?

That sounds utterly bizarre. If people are reaching for something that petty, you're being sent a pretty strong signal. They want you out and you'd better get serious about finding another job as soon as you can. It's not going to get better.

This “boss” or manager may be intimidated by your success and knowledge. Insecure managers tend to highlight and magnify errors to validate their own inferiorities. Take that as a sign and look for another job with better management. Sadly, so many insecure people are in leadership, and it’s draining. 🫤
