Hmm, how do you usually frame your messages? I think it's nothing unusual, people may find you interesting or not mind you at all– you're pooling within professionals though so I'd take it as a normal business transaction/invitation. Hope you get good prospects!
Thank you! I normally try to be concise: I introduce myself with my major, mention our overlapping quality, and end on the reason why I’m messaging (and of course a “thank you!”)
I think that's pretty good. I've gotten messages like those before and I do respond BUT I like it when they have clear questions and a goal from the convo, not just random things lol
Most people trying to connect are developing a network that will help in the future in terms of job search and referrals. Some people are just friendly enough to help. If people are willing to connect, there is no need to feel anxious about how they think.
Personally, if I were to give a stranger some of my precious time, it would have to be less than 30 minutes right out of the gate. Maybe offer to buy them a virtual coffee and connect for 5 minutes over zoom. Also, be sure to acknowledge that you realize they're time is valuable and that you will respect that in your call.
