I’m being recruited for an MD role at A&M. I quite like the people I’ve met — are there any gotchas I should be aware of? Plan is to stay and build for a long period of time.

In what way?

Actual A&M MD happy to chat. MD = Equity Partner. I’ve been here for 10+ years and really like the work we do and most of the other MD’s (nothing is perfect), We have hired many direct hire MD’s, some work out and others struggle. If you are used to being fed, A&M is difficult. If you have a network of clients that trust you and look to you for help, we are the right fit.

Thanks, that was a very helpful reply and is a very reasonable expectation.

I turned down the partner offer, 25 years in and around HR / HR. Consulting and I couldn’t understand how after the first 2 years bonus / equity share was determined and paid out.

Depending on where you are coming from, it will feel small. They also have a very high rate of lateral hires that don’t work out, so you also don’t come in the door with a lot of people believing in you. Many will assume you will be there a year.

like

Exactly what P1 says above. Significant churn with laterals, most don’t stay beyond 18 months (or whenever their guarantee runs out). Existing MDs are very nice but you get almost no support whatsoever to build a book of business.

I would also add that I’m not so sure on the culture there. They really tried to sell me on it. But I saw folks who would have been small potatoes in bigger firms with HUGE egos, like they thought it was consulting in the 1990s golden era or something. So also be prepared to potentially do a lot of kissing up to folks who are way less experienced than you are.

Some of those small potatoes probably make the same as a big4 CEO. If comp is a way of keeping score, I think they're winning. I'd personally prefer that to being the vice regional chair of Americas 3rd floor offices.

Is MD Partner equivalent?

For someone who had an offer D1 doesn't understand our basic op model very well. We have no Partners. MD is the highest rank and most/all have the ability to buy equity. Some groups have MD1/MD2 but they are treated as equals.

Well, shit. Thanks a lot for the insights folks

Hi Everyone !!!

This June I completed my 9 months at Career Level 12 and Sub Level 3 I.e, CL 12.3 at
Accenture Operations. My Annual Talent Discussion and One-on-One with People Lead is complete as of last week.

I have 3 questions now :
1. When can I expect to move to 12.2 ?
2. What is the general hike I can expect ? And when it is reflected ?
3. When will be the variable pay will be paid out ?

Can anyone here help me with this performance cycle part ? I am really confused.

There's a debate about this going on in the Google bowl, which I find interesting. Most people are saying they don't have a problem with this, but I think it's deeply unfair.

The argument that resonates with me is that if you move to a LCOL city the value of your output isn't all of sudden worth 25% less.

Curious what others in the industry think.
