I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

Hi,
I have joined ACTI a month back in Kolkata in L9. I wanted to opt for Company Car Lease policy just to save TAX but finding it too complicated.
I had raised queries to payrole and they have replied with a suggestion to think twice before opting for this benifit.
What do you all suggest, who have already opted for it?Accenture

There IS a teacher shortage!
This demonstrates value/valued, IMO.
I think all of you are missing an obvious point: student teachers not only are not paid, they are paying $$ to student teach.
As a requirement of their program they earn college credit for the experience. If this money would help them to pay for this required experience, it could help them to graduate with less debt as well.

I think this could help some stay in teaching or maybe be attractive for teaching.
I think it’s nice. When I student taught, after a full day at school I went to my retail job until 9-9:30. I was perpetually exhausted. A stipend would have made my life a little easier.

It's definitely a lot to juggle at once.
I worked my grocery store job 3 days a week after-school and on the weekend, like I did in high school. I have been teaching 24 years and still have a part time job after-school. I have a Doctorate in Education. I don’t see lawyers waiting tables after they get out of court….
MHS1 Sad but true!!! We get worked to death all day, dealing with teaching, behavior, grading,....and then to have to go to a job after being completely depleted of all energy! It's sad that we are so disrespected.
I love it. It’s about time. Student teaching is like an internship, and today most internships are paid. My kid earned $15 an hour last summer as a marketing intern; he learned a lot, got paid, and found out he did not want to go into marketing. Win-win.

Yes, learning can happen while earning money for the experience!
It's about time!! They should have always done that. It was so hard to work after school, plus having to grade papers as well. I graduated in 1983!
While there should be some stipend, $10,000 for 12 weeks seems a bit high. That’s over $800 a week for what’s essentially an internship.
I didn't even think about that! I was thinking it was for a year! I was first at UF and had to student teach 2 different levels for a semester, then moved to FAU and had to do a semester. That's a year. If they are only student teaching for 12 weeks and getting $10,000-15,000, that is a lot of money. Wish it happened when I was going through it. It's just that they can't get teachers any more.
What do you mean "what do we think?" They should've also paid US making us work for free doing the same mess and being broke having to get a job on the side. I'm actually envious of the newbie student teachers!

I would have loved to get even a little money when I student taught. My Co-op had me teaching full days from the third week I was there until the day I left. While I didn’t think that was fair (and my college made her revise this plan for other student teachers) I felt very prepared going into my first job. She taught me more than just teaching and lesson planning. She taught me the very needed skills of time management and “house keeping.”
