I'm expecting my first baby in June. I'm excited, but I'm having a hell of a time picking a baby name. I've been teaching 2nd, 4th, or 5th grade for the past 12 years, and every name I think of comes with memories of past students I'd rather forget. How did you guys come up with baby names that didn't remind you of past students or their parents?

That’s tricky! I suggest picking a gender-neutral name for multiple reasons. The first, some of them are less common and that might help with your problem. The second and more important reason is that you have no clue who your kid will be and if they turn out to be non-binary and/or trans, they’d be more likely to still like their name. Changing your name is a huge hassle. I wish I was born with a gender-neutral name! (Obviously they may still want to change it - even possibly for reasons completely unrelated to gender.) Another approach is looking at your ancestry and finding something from your own culture. If you have Irish ancestry, for example, you could look at Gaelic names - they’re definitely going to be rare! (But also can be hard to spell and pronounce, which could be annoying for them.) You could take a word and make it a name - concept, nature, color, month… Lots of girls are named June and May, but December could be a beautiful name. Lots of colors are names but lots of others are not but still beautiful words. Hope this helps!

My first was inspired by a historical figure that I admired. My second was based off a student who was so kind and just special all around. And finally my third was one that had been a forever favorite, inspired partially by an actor but mainly due to culture. My son is the only one with an "ethnic" name.

Take your time. Maybe decide once you meet your baby in person. I know you'll make the right choice for you and your child!

Congratulations!!!!

I met so many teachers with this dilemma. I one time met a white teacher with a child's name was Sub-Saharan African, because in her words, "I just needed one child's name with no negative memories."

Hey all! Need a couple book recs for an upcoming beach trip.

Looking for a great non-fiction, relating to travel or world history (not just one moment in time). Could also be about the marketing world or memoirs of a business leader kinda thing.

Fiction wise I also like fantasy, paranormal, and romance. Some fave book series are the Black Gryphon from Mercedes Lackey, Game of Thrones, and From Jamaica Lane series. Similar books?

Lots of layoffs at Latitude today. What’s the story?

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Has anyone successfully sold your gently used clothing for cash on the spot anywhere in Chicagoland? If yes, where? So looking for instant cash. TIA
