I’m looking for some creative solutions or suggestions for when a narcissistic coworker says “Let me take it to a higher level and takes over your call” In my perception, it is a power play, but, when the person is above you title-wise, what do you do? Note, not a spring chicken, so not even sure why I even care …

That sounds horrendous. I think I’d overplay it and say “let’s bring it back down to a lower level” and start talking. But only bc I like to poke the bear 😛

Before I advise: Do they really bring any value to the table? Do they suggest ideas or do things that only they can do?
And...have you addressed the issue with them directly?

If the person is narcissist, based on my experience there is no solution. Sorry for not adding value to this post but I’m following the responses too to see if there is a way.
Narcissism is a disorder. These people are very well aware of what they are doing so it’s not about blind spots or whatever. If you can smartly stand up to their responses with authenticity and meaningful information you might be able to earn their respect for a few minutes.

Good questions, to which I would say possibly and more importantly I should mention well-connected and makes sure that is known.

👀

What exactly do they mean when they say/ do that? Do they actually take it to a higher level (ie executive summary) or just being rude and narcissistic? Also, what's your audience?

Thanks, so what I hear you saying is assuming execs, however, they were not, we are directors. Thus, plan b kicks in- let it go and let the others judge for themselves. Got it
