I’m looking to move jobs and looking to move up. I’m wondering, without disclosing my current salary, if it’s reasonable to ask for a 20% salary increase? Is that a normal progression?

It's a tad on the high side, but not egregious. I'm usually targeting 15% and willing to settle for 10%. As long as you don't disclose current salary, there's nothing inherently wrong with the ask, just be prepared for them to counter closer to 5-10%.

Hmm thanks. I might have been comparing to someone else in a different industry that aims for 20% but it’s good to know what our industry is like.

You can ask for anything, but the problem is that what's reasonable will be in the eye of a potential employer. They're going to be going by whatever the salary range for the position is. Ask what the salary band is and try to position yourself within that range. The tops of those ranges are almost always unattainable, but if the middle is a good increase over your present salary, you'd be making a reasonable ask.

Thank you. This is helpful
