Oh no... 🤦🏾♀️
Ooh…
I once had a project in BOS and set the fire alarm off with my blow dryer in a hotel located closer to the suburbs (it emitted the slightest amount of hair product steam/smoke) and thought, “what could be more systemic than this?!”… proof not even curly haired people travel through here
On the flip side, I know a few Black people who are happy there in academia and/or stay close to academia
Black people being happy in Boston?
The fire alarm thing isn’t a reach.. they can set sensitivity of smoke alarms. They literally didn’t account for women who blow dry their hair straight when setting the alarm sensitivity.
I live in Boston, have only heard about how bad it is from black folks that don't live here, especially those from NY/DC. Biggest compliant is how expensive it is to live here
This is so helpful, thanks! Everyone that has shared there [negative] feedback had never even lived there.
Watch murder in Boston on max if you haven’t. It was eye opening.
Just watched 😲🤬
I lived in Boston. Not the most robust black scene, but don’t let ppl who’ve never lived there scare you. There’s definitely black ppl, black events, etc. I would suggest following theblackbostonian on ig if you don’t already.
Thank you!
I live in Boston and I enjoy it. I’ve been here for a while now. You’ll find a robust black community in Dorchester/Roslindale/Roxbury but we are everywhere to some degree. Boston While Black is a good organization to join to meet other professionals in the area.
Thank you!
I live in Boston and I haven’t really experienced any high negatives. There are some surrounding cities where I stay on guard, but I live in a decent neighborhood and folks are nice or stick to themselves
