I just went to Atlanta for a textile trade show called TechTextil which was great for reviewing technology for textile and manufacturing for apparel. It was held Atlanta's new GWCC which is as big as the Jacob Javits Center. Domestic and overseas companies reviewed updated technology which will be a jump into Industry 4.0 for the fashion industry

One that shouldn’t have caught me off guard, but certainly did in the moment, was “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”
I found this is a great question to answer back with another question. Especially since I was moving *outside* of big accounting with my interviewing, so I had to figure out how companies that don't have a set "up or out" progression timeline do things. So I got *them* to share what the typical progression path would be for someone after 5 years in that role.
I don't think interviewers purposely set out to trick or trap anybody. I think that's something that people say on social media but doesn't actually happen. Remember, they want to fill the position and they don't want to purposely make things difficult for promising applicants.
There can be out-of-the-box questions, but most of those are more to see the way you handle the thought process to answer them. It’s less about the final answer.
One time when I was a senior, an interviewer asked if I’d worked on any 1031s and I choked and said no… I mentally processed it as 1041 returns instead of 1031 exchanges, which I worked on all the time lol. I did not get that job. Best advice is to slow your brain down as much as possible before you respond, then answer genuinely. Look at a bunch of interview questions online for your role to familiarize yourself. You got this.
I wouldn't say they are trick questions, just that interview questions are their own kind of corporate speak "terms of art" that a lot of ordinary people might not understand without being coached first. E.g. "tell me about yourself" is not an invitation for you to share information about your personal life, your hobbies, etc. It is specifically an opportunity for you to position yourself for how you are fit for this opportunity, have relevant accomplishments that back up your narrative, etc. but if you already know this for the "basic questions", then you shouldn't have any problems with any similar kinds of questions
