Guys, OP is just asking for your costs based on your experience. For me each week it’s roughly:
Food delivery: $50
Groceries: $75
Alcohol: $25
Going out (restaurants and bars): $75
$25 on alcohol? Cheap date.
I drink/eat out Thursday-Saturday, sometimes brunch on Sundays. Probably spend 150/night on average. So I’d say 600/week.
One of the nice things about Chicago is that you have the ability to own your experience. If you choose to hit more casual spots, you can spend much less and still get high quality food/drink/fun. Or if you have a taste for the finer things, you can spend much more!
$500/month on dinner(dine in & takeout)/drinks; this includes paying for GF 75% of the time. It really does depend on where you tend to go out though. When I first moved it was easy to spend $1000/month because i wanted to experience everything Chicago had to offer. That being said, I was definitely excessive. $500 came after switching to basically drinks and dinner 1-2x week. Most of this is done in the West Loop/River North, so it’s on the pricier side in Chicago. However, there are plenty of places where the previously mentioned ~$25 can provide a great night out!

Here’s the great thing - you don’t need a car here for most part. The lakefront is a huge playground that is free for the most part, exploring the city, bike trails, farmers markets. You can spend as much or as little as you like. Restaurant dining is pretty comparable to other cities - something at every price point. Go online and look at menus or Grubhub, open table to check actual prices and go from there. I would say on $100 week is good place to start. Maybe less maybe more.
How bougie are you?
I am not very bougie and LOVE hosting friends. I think I spend like maybe MAX $50 a week going out. It's like dinner out once and then two drinks.
This varies wildly by lifestyle.
$1.5-2k/mo maybe? Dinner =$75 (I rarely went to cheap places), drinks = $125+.... do this 2-3x/week.
I know people that cooked all meals at home and would go out very rarely; might have 2-3 drinks @$15/ea, so their “going out” would be around $300/mo. You could also go out in other areas and pay 1/3 of this.
I would say $25 is reasonable for a casual entree. But that doesn’t include appetizers, dessert, drinks, or your dates meal! Adds up very quickly.
How old are you? Are you single? What is your lifestyle like? (How social)
$200 month on restaurants/take out? Don’t drink and am married with 2 kids so don’t go out often. You’ll get better answers with some background because I highly doubt we have the same lifestyle
This is a really silly question bc it will be different for literally every person. Some ppl go to Starbucks every day, some ppl make their own coffee every day - how will an average be meaningful for you?
What you should be asking is what the average spend is on specific items - how much is a nice cocktail, how much is a fancy dinner, how much is an average dinner, etc., then multiply that by what your lifestyle dictates
It’s not a silly question. I’m getting value out of the responses that will come in - and how I use that information is the purpose of why I asked.
If it’s silly to you - then ignore it and continue scrolling and comment on a post where it will add value to people.
