I think it depends on what you’re solving for and what type of watch you want. All the brands have their own strengths:
-The Omega Speedmaster is an iconic watch worthy of being in any collection. Tudor is mostly known for its divers and the seamaster 300m is a much better watch than the Tudor Black Bay and arguably is a better competitor to the Pelagos. The finishing on an Omega is much higher than Tudor because they’re competing with Rolex albeit being much more accessible. I’ve never handled a GS diver but they don’t look that appealing to me
-GS makes the best unique dials in the industry and its in-house movements are incredible. I would definitely get one if you want a dress watch - it’s unique enough to deserve a place in any collection. The finishing on GS watches are on par with Rolex and I’d certainly get one over a datejust. GS bracelets are not great and they tend to be bulkier watches but still really good value
-Tudor is a great choice if you like the vintage style dive watch aesthetic at accessible prices. Their watches have clearly borrowed from vintage Rolex and while they’ll never escape being a “cheaper Rolex”, they are increasingly willing to try new materials, colors and styles to chart their own path while Rolex continues to play it safe. I don’t think it makes sense to have both a black bay and a Rolex Sub, but if you don’t have a diver and aren’t intrigued by Rolex (incl. if you can actually get one) adding a Tudor is a sensible choice.
Because the message above was getting too long: all the brands still offer value, though Omega has hiked up its prices too aggressively in the past few years. Tudor and especially GS can be found on the secondary market for significant discounts, which still make them very compelling options whereas Omega will have less discounts from MSRP given the price increases will push more people into the secondary market.
Chrono24 is a solid platform and it’s worth negotiating the suggested price if the seller allows you to (in my experience anywhere from $200-500 which effectively saves tax+shipping). I would look at the seller rating/reviews, the other watches they have listed and if they’re a merchant - then their website. Obviously assess the condition of the watch, box papers etc. and what the tariff hit might be (if you’re in the U.S.)
They all do different things well. They all have a big catalogue with a bunch of less desirable references. Hard to speak in generalities without discussing specific watches.
What to pay attention to when buying used? Buy the seller, not the watch and if it something looks too good to be true, it is. Only buy from established sellers that have exceptional reviews across the board. Trying to save a little more money going with the cheapest option you can find from a seller with very limited history is a good way to get burned.
Personal opinion, grand Seiko and omega compete with Rolex. Tudor is a great brand, but it will always be rolexs little brother, so I put it on the same level as tag and longines (that said, I'd take a Tudor 10/10 times over those two brands)
Tudor is miles above Longines and tag😂
The have master chronometer in house movements.
They also have decades of supplying militaries with dive watches.
They are certainly Rolex’s little brother but the technical aspects are very good. When they started it was the same case as Rolex but cheaper movements, now the movements have the same performance.
Omega and GS don’t compete with Rolex for prestige or desirability. You can buy either any day of the week.
I’ve got one of each. The GS gets the most wrist time, followed by the Tudor, then the omega
GS - amazing movement, easy on the wrist
Tudor - a bit flashier
Omega (seamaster) - great daily wear, feels very durable - I wear it the most when travelling
