Oh, I can absolutely relate. And I’ve seen this from both sides, as a homeowner and as someone who’s helped hundreds of clients buy their first place. The bills and surprise expenses are real, and it’s totally normal to feel that “what did I get myself into?” moment. But here’s the thing: over time, you’re building equity, not just paying someone else’s mortgage, and you’re investing in something that can grow in value. It might feel overwhelming now, but in the long run, owning your home usually puts you in a stronger financial position and gives you a sense of stability and pride that renting just can’t match. Hang in there
This is what I’m hearing from friends who bought recently. The repair and maintenance expenses can be extremely high. But you go into it counting on your property’s value to increase over time so if you’ll sell it, you’ll make a profit. Or you’ll be able to live there for free and forever once you finish the mortgage.
Owning a home is nice but it's not for everyone. If I had to do it again I would not own a home I would find a nice apartment in a good area that has a reliable maintenance crew and what not.
This, but I just had an appraisal done and home appreciation, so far, will cover my maintenance and upgrade costs.
