Is it a red flag if an insurance agency won't explain where its warm leads come from? I just finished an interview for a sales role, and the recruiter got super vague when I asked for specifics. I’m trying to avoid a bait-and-switch where I end up cold-calling all day. How can I vet these jobs to make sure the lead flow is actually legit?

We do not explain where are leads are from but we do say we are an inbound call center and if you are making an outbound call it will be because they called in and lines were busy. You are just returning a call.

I don't think that is necessarily a red flag. I actually think that is pretty normal. However, it is good to be cautious. You can always check reviews and see if you can find any information that way.

Most companies are not going to reveal too much information to someone who is interviewing for a job. They'll answer a lot of questions, of course, but something like that, where you're asking about internal and perhaps proprietary work, would be outside the scope of a job interview. Now, you can make an assessment based on how vague the person sounded, and if that leads you to believe the role's not for you, that's fine.

My #1 rule is if something makes you uncomfortable, move on. The larger the company, the less transparency (also position dependent)- that's nothing new. However, you still want to be at a place where, even with that being true, "vague" doesn't feel shady.

Also - ASK. Always ask. Interviews are a two-way street. Ask point-blank questions. Ask if there are questions you should expect to never receive answers to (there may be very valid reasons and if they're legit, they'll give you a response that makes sense). A good company will appreciate you diving deep and asking real questions (respectfully, of course!) in an interview. If they don't? Cross that one off your list in pen.

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.

Looking to transition out of Management Consulting and going into big tech in NYC. Ideally, I would love to go in as a PMM; however I’ve heard it’s very difficult to make that jump if you don’t have a degree in engineering or CS (I’m a liberal arts graduate and in the final year of a part-time mba). Should I look to apply as a program manager role since it’s more likely my consulting experience will apply to that and see if I can transition into a PMM role from there?

Also I’m sorry if this is the wrong bowl to post in.
