Is it normal to transfer billable time from one unrelated project to another? I understand transferring time when someone messes up their timesheet, or even occasional transfers for other reasons. I spend hours each week transferring time and having to lie about why on the form. Maybe this is normal, but there just has to be a better way than copy and pasting a bunch of hours into spreadsheets for a quarter of my week.

Definitely normal and I think it’s probably expected at a beginner level to handle the transfers. It’ll get better once you balance it out but I had to do the same thing when I started.

No this is not normal. The client can request the project hours. If one project has been overestimated and has time available and fixed rate and another has been underestimated and you need to cover time, then yes this is common practice.

Unfortunately normal. But could also technically be considered fraud.

So many factors play into this: excessive billing, too many people involved, not understanding full scope, to name a few.

Best advice is to always communicate internally and with clients. And communicate early. Don’t push off the discussion later because you are afraid. Especially with money. Clients might have more money at the beginning of the year than later.

My team just wrote off $200K because an employee did let want to talk to the client back in April cause she was too busy. Now I’m about to put her on a PIP (other issues too)

Hi everyone,

I'm going for a role for Account Director and have gone through the interviews with the head of accounts, BD as well as the ECD's. I received the following email at the end of the day:

"You are one of two candidates in the final round.

One thing we haven’t spoken about are your salary expectations. Could you have a think and let me know early next week as well as your employment status (residency permit)."

What would be the best way to answer this response? Appreciate the help

What are some brands with an in-house agency? Looking to make a move to client side.

Right so here’s a bit of a dilemma I work to a much higher standard at home and it’s this high standard that means I’m in line for a promotion. I’ve grown so much and I feel really strong in my role I’m also busier than ever. The problem is we’re going back into the office and I don’t want to go in if it’s just going to be senior management in asking me to get them lunches for client meetings or fetch a glass of water and cutlery for meeting rooms. Definitely not ready to go back to that….

I work for a small agency and manage our internal marketing acct. We had very few processes in place when I started. I’ve since created, implemented, and trained our dept. on project mgmt for clients and am trying to convince the owner to apply those principles to our internal jobs. They are resistant because they just want the work to be done and don’t “want to keep spending money on internal jobs”. I’m confused because we’re doing the work either way and “spending” in labor/resources.
