Jr PjM/BA 4 YOE in Tech Implementation Consulting. Beginner skills in Python, JS, HTML, CSS, AWS, SailPoint. Moderate in Azure, Okta. Have PMP, Certified Scrum Master, M.Sc., BBA. Want useful skills, but must focus energy and time. Recent projects and team just not filling my cup. Cloud Architecture, DevOps, InfoSec, IAM all seem interesting and highly rewarding. Taking CompTia N+ soon, and realizing its low demand. What certs & projects should I do to land a technical role within 1 yr?
Probably not look at your team and think about how they’re all white
Who are you talking to? I know it’s not me.
I've been there. It sucks that we constantly have to go above and beyond most to get that recognition and respect we deserve. The best I can say is, keep pushing and rocking on. The recognition will definitely catch up to you and people won't be able to deny it at some point.
Call them out on it lol make a powerpoint
All white group in software engineering 😂 which company? How are they still in business?
💀
Find a new job or change groups internally.
Interviewed with a company that had a Jamaican American hiring manager, the recruiter was of Asian ancestry, another dev is African American. The entire process was chill and I could see myself working with those people.
It’s threads like these where white folks should step back and listen. It’s hard to explain bias and micro aggressions.
For OP. I try to be explicit with my accomplishments and compare to my peers if absolutely necessary. Sometimes you will never be good enough because your leaders mind is made up about you and they’ll be blind to see your side. Nothing you can do but step back in that last case. I haven’t found it worthwhile to push my agenda much. What I’ve done is to find another job and leave the with the big vacuum I created by not being there. Products and projects have shut down this way. Oh well.
Honestly...I ignore it. I used to care alot more about it but now I just keep my head down and do my job. I try not to let it bother me.

Not a POC - but if I was, I'd look for support with an employee resource group like larger companies have.
I'd also have a chat with my manager about what I was noticing.
This is a pretty strong allegation, and if you can produce any substantive evidence to it, I suggest it you take it to HR. It happens, but again it could be just you misreading the situation. In any case, best to tread carefully with these types of situations
Again, focusing on diversity issues only doesn’t seem to me like the best thing to foster an unbiased environment where one’s career can prosper based on merit. Teams should be mindful of diversity but not at the expense of team productivity standards.
As long as that check hit I'm good.
Asian here. This is part of the nature working in a white-majority country. Just keep heads down and do your work, and let your work proves its worth.
Good thing about America is that majority people here are nice, and you can build your furtune and welth independent of how your workplace is running - it's up to you to run your life and finance, and don't count on others including your company to be your caretaker. If your team or company is bad, move on, don't look back. Don't get stuck on the negatives and let them poison your mental health, as bad things and bad luck could happen in any country.
I am an immigrant, and came to this country in 1980 with $60 in my pocket (granted I have my college tuation being taken care of by family), and today I am a multimillionare after worked my entire professional life here. Did I get paid less than my white American collegues? Did I get passed by on promo opportunities than others in the team? Hell yeah, but that didn't stop me from doing my work and contributing and get rewarded, for me to eventually build my financial independent.
I can’t tell if this is satire or not….
I hate to say it, but it might be time to look elsewhere.
The company I work at currently (and the one I was at previously) are incredibly affirming and supportive of my identity as a trans, black man.
They celebrate my accomplishments regularly, they express gratitude for my daily contributions and there's never been a day where I don't feel valued.
I've been given generous raises, bonuses and my last employer even co-signed the lease of my first luxury apartment 😅
All I'm saying is, work is a place where we spend most of our lives. Do you really want to sit in that energy 8+ hours a day, everyday? Don't wait around for appreciation from people who don't see your value. Go where they recognize your worth immediately
