Don't you dare tip anybody in this country, we've got a good thing going and you seppos have already ruined too many good things already

funny

You will be exiled if you dare tip.

Unless it’s to any of the Thai/immigrant servers at any of the Asian restaurants on King St. They normally get paid in cash and it’s not much at all.

Yes, it’s true for most of Australia. Hospitality minimum wages are much higher, and it’s reflected in higher numerical menu prices (ignore the exchange rate). For example, an 8 oz latte (smaller than a tall Starbucks) is A$5-7, a brunch dish is A$20-30, appetizers (called entrees here) are about the same at A$15-30, and entrees (called mains here) are A$35+. Fancy restaurants might have a tipping option when you tap your card, but it’s not mandatory and the tip is max 10%. You won’t be prompted at most eateries — it’s just tap & go.

Uber prompts you, but it’s mostly because it’s American. Again, not mandatory.

Seeking advice: I’ve been working as an analyst at a PE company for 18months 4 days a week on a part time contract and I feel like they are under paying me. I’m earning 42.2K p.a They want me to go full time as I am graduating however I don’t know what the base salary for an analyst with 18 months experience would be. My friend who works as an analyst (with less experience than me) is earning 70K. Would love to get a sense of what I should be expecting / asking for when I go full time. Thanks!
