Easier to do now than later.
You’ll enjoy it, but do take the time to think about the future.
I have seen a lot of late 20s early 30s take breaks and they are usually just running away from a life they cannot find meaning in. But they don’t find it on a beach in Thailand. They just burn through their money and pick up where they left off.
People can still be unhappy whilst married with family, ZS1, but past a certain age, it’s less likely than for singles. Men and women, particularly the latter during their late years. Just based on pure stats and polls/reports.
Who gives a s***. Do what’s best for you honestly🤷🏻♂️I’d assume as long as you explain, they shouldn’t really have an issue.
i took a 1yr sabbatical in my mid 20s then several years later mck reached out to recruit me from acn, so they dont always care
Are you employed? It'd be better if you're employed and leave out entirely on your resume; you're still employed so no need to adjust dates
I don’t think what you’re describing is a sabbatical then.
But otherwise agree with the sentiment - do what’s best for you. I’m never looking at resumes closely enough to spot a few month gap. And wouldn’t have any issue with someone saying they were taking some time off - or even saying, it took me a while to find the next thing.
Life’s short, go enjoy it.
Traveled for 6 months with my now wife before moving back to the States (had an expat assignment aboard) no regrets. Did it at 30. I will caveat though that I had bschool lined up but my wife found a job within 3 months of getting back (last year with the spotty market (and still spotty today)).
DO IT!!
I took an 18 month sabbatical in mid to late 20’s and backpacked around the world. Got to live in places, meet people, see things, and have experiences I’ll carry with me to the end.
When it came time to return stateside and get a job, yes, some companies wrote me off with that gap on my resume. I didn’t hide it. I had it clearly marked and a couple bullet points on what I did during the time away. However, I knew the companies that saw that time/experience as a positive would be the kinds of companies I’d want to work for.
I promise you, at the end of the day, you’ll never regret it.
No it is not a bad idea, doesn’t matter.
No it was an unbelievable decision. I’m so grateful. But try to do it while you’re employed if you can.
See if your company offers any such opportunities (even if it’s unpaid) and get your manager and team support.
Try to time it so it’s after any major deliverables. Becomes an easier sell. And don’t do it if you’re trying to get promoted soon.
At this point, just do you. We all be dead soon anyway lol
I did it and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my career, hands down.

Why, and what age did you do at?

So reading your comment OP it sounds like you are currently unemployed which wouldn’t make this a sabbatical.
I’m all for taking time off work just recognize the market right now is one of the worst it’s been. So if you take 3-6 months of not working there is a very real possibility it will then take you at minimum another 3-6 months to find a new job.
Is that something you would be okay with?
I took 6 months off work as a 27 year old and absolutely no one cared. They definitely asked me about the gap in my resume and I just say I took some time off to rest and think / be really intentional about my next career move. No further questions
I also upgraded jobs after my break! The only thing I’d watch out for is the market is not good right now, so re entering the job market may be harder than when I did in January of this year.
No it’s a good idea.
I did it in my early 20’s. Best thing i ever did for myself
I took 8 weeks at 29 and wish it had been longer. Do it
If your money situation is ok, take the sabbatical.
I would take the sabbatical and just not mention it on my resume any more than I would list the last 2 weeks of December or my last PTO Friday -- and that's how much it should matter to prospective employers.
If you can afford to, why not?
As far as employment, the only thing that matters is the story you tell. Took time off for a trip, to be with / care for family, etc. I wish I had proactively taken breaks.

No one cares and there are many ways to talk around it if anyone asks.
